Recall Summary

Name of Product: Street Charge solar powered mobile device charging stations

Hazard: The weld connecting the top and bottom posts can fail and allow the top post to fall, posing an impact hazard to nearby consumers.

Remedy: Repair

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled charging stations until a free inspection and repair of weld connections is conducted by Goal Zero. The firm is notifying all known customers.

Description: This recall involves Street Charge solar powered charging stations used to charge up to six mobile devices at a time. The charging stations are approximately 150 inches tall by 63 inches wide by 54 inches deep. Aluminum panels cover three sides of the tree-shaped charging station’s top post. “Street Charge” is etched on the product panels.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of the top post detaching. No injuries have been reported.

Sold to: Colleges, stadiums and other public facilities nationwide from October 2014 through February 2017 for between $5,500 and $10,000.

Question: What product is being recalled?
Answer: Goal Zero LLC is recalling to inspect and repair certain units of the Street Charge® Solar Powered Charging Station (“Charging Station”) that were sold from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017.

Question: How can I determine whether I have the recalled Charging Station?
Answer: Goal Zero is notifying directly end users who purchased a new Charging Station from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017. The Charging Station measures approximately 150 inches tall by 63 inches wide by 54 inches deep, has three solar panels, and can charge up to six mobile devices at a time. Aluminum panels cover 3 sides of the tree-shaped Charging Station’s top post, and it can be identified as a Goal Zero product if “Street Charge” is etched on the product panels. Question: Why is Goal Zero conducting a recall?
Answer: Goal Zero has discovered that welds connecting the top and bottom posts on certain units that were sold from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017 can fail, which could allow the top post to fall, posing an impact hazard to nearby consumers. Goal Zero is conducting the recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Charging Stations until a free inspection and repair of weld connections is conducted by Goal Zero.

Question: How did you find out about this issue?
Answer: Prior to the recall announcement, Goal Zero received three reports that a Charging Station’s top post fell off due to a weld failure. No injuries have been reported.

Question: Was anyone hurt in those reported incidents?
Answer: No. No injuries were reported.

Question: How do I participate in the recall?
Answer: If your Charging Station was initially purchased from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017, Goal Zero will inspect the Charging Station to determine if a repair is required. If a repair is required, Goal Zero will repair the Charging Station free of charge.

Question: I purchased my Charging Station between October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017, and haven’t had any problems with it. Do I still need to have Goal Zero inspect the Charging Station?
Answer: Yes. Consumer safety is our highest priority. If your Charging Station was initially purchased from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017, Goal Zero will inspect the Charging Station to determine if a repair is required. If a repair is required, Goal Zero will repair the Charging Station free of charge.

Question: I sold my Charging Station. What should I do?
Answer: If the Charging Station was initially purchased from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017, please let us know to whom you sold the unit so we can notify them of the recall. If you would prefer, you can inform the person yourself and ask that they contact Goal Zero at 877-897-3193 (from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MDT Monday through Friday). Goal Zero will inspect the Charging Station to determine if a repair is required. If a repair is required, Goal Zero will repair the Charging Station free of charge.

Question: Can I get a refund for my Charging Station or a replacement unit?
Answer: No. If your Charging Station was initially purchased from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017, Goal Zero will inspect the Charging Station to determine if a repair is required. If a repair is required, Goal Zero will repair the Charging Station free of charge.

Question: I purchased a Charging Station from Goal Zero before October 1, 2014 or after February 28, 2017. Does the recall affect my Charging Station?
Answer: No. Charging Stations initially purchased before October 1, 2014 or after February 28, 2017 are not affected.

Question: I purchased a Charging Station on the secondary market rather than from Goal Zero. Can I still participate in the recall?
Answer: Yes. If your Charging Station was initially purchased from October 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017, Goal Zero will inspect the Charging Station to determine if a repair is required. If a repair is required, Goal Zero will repair the Charging Station free of charge.
