KENYA | OFF THE GRID

KENYA | OFF THE GRID

Goal Zero ambassador Alex Honnold travels the world climbing incredible rock walls; he also literally empowers people along the way. On a recent climbing trip to Kenya, Honnold and his crew used Goal Zero solar panels and portable power packs to charge the camera equipment needed to document their adventure. Afterwards, they left it all behind for an organization that will benefit greatly from having a reliable, sustainable source of power.

Mukutan Nature Conservancy is a 90,000 acre conservancy located on the edge of the Rift Valley. Fifty rangers at the conservancy are tasked with preventing poaching and preserving the wild land that others would rather exploit; all while off the grid. The Goal Zero products that Honnold was able to leave behind will help the rangers patrol and protect in a place where it is dark for significant hours a day throughout the entire year.

“It’s funny how lights are like the primary thing… being able to have a powerful flashlight to wander around in the dark. It’s something you don’t really think about in the first world, but in the equator here it’s dark for 12 hours a day all year round,” says Honnold
