MUST-DO TRIPS AND TRAVEL FOR 2013

MUST-DO TRIPS AND TRAVEL FOR 2013

We may have come up with a bucket list for places to see and things to do, but National Geographic chimed in with even more cool adventures. After asking a number of world class athletes about the ultimate explorations and must-do’s, National Geographic showcased a number of expeditions for people to start penciling in for next year. To that we add: viva la 2013. A few highlights from the top of the list include:

GEYIKBAYIRI, TURKEY

Is Turkey on your places to see? Well, maybe it will be. Perhaps it's little off the radar, but Geyikbayiri is a vacation spot with plenty to consider. Here, those interested in climbing will find themselves conquering a mile-long shelf of limestone with around 600 diverse routes. There are plenty of routes for beginners as well. After climbing, they even recommend you check out the beaches for rest.

AKUMAL, YUCATAN, MEXICO

Caves have unseen treasures and underwater secrets. They can be challenging and dangerous and they even offer an otherworldly experience. But in order to jump in, underwater cave diving takes the right equipment and training. With that said, make it happen and try Yucatan. According to them, you can take a four-day diving course here and learn the fundamentals among what the Maya consider sacred.

TUSCANY, ITALY

Heading to Italy for food and wine is one thing, but make sure you add on biking through Tuscany. This recommended adventure boasts narrow lanes through olive groves, vineyards and cypress trees. With the beauty of the country you can cycle just about anywhere going from town to town or through mountain passes.

VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA

Grab a buddy and plan a kayaking expedition in Vancouver. Here, paddlers can experience empty beaches, rainforests and wild life. While on the water, kayakers may be surprised to see a pod of orcas or humpback whales. The area even offers camping on the beach for beautiful scenery.

OAHU, HAWAII

Sure, surfing is a huge deal in Hawaii but there are other adventures to be had. Recommended by a champion of the Battle of the Paddle, this island has stellar standup paddleboarding. The reef breaks are said to be great for a number of skill sets ranging from potential paddleboarders and pros alike. There is even an eight-mile downwind paddle for those interested in a longer glide. We love life untethered in any form of adventure. There’s so much out there to be done. If you conquered any of these must-do’s already, we’d love to hear your stories. Or, tell us about a must-do you recommend and why.
