]]>SALT LAKE CITY - October 18, 2022 - Goal Zero, a leader in portable energy, today announced the latest short film in its Power Moves series. The film features the triumphant and heart-wrenching story of Emily Henkel and Alexander Lofgren which eventually led to “The Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks Act”.
Just over a year ago, Henkel faced the challenge of her life while losing her fiance and life partner in a tragic hiking accident in Death Valley National Park. The film details the incredible healing journey that she’s been on since that harrowing event. To give Alex’s life and legacy even more meaning, she fought for the passing of the Veterans in Parks Act that allows veterans and gold-star families free access to national parks for life; previously, they would have to reapply each year. This allows veterans entrance to the healing spaces Alex had sought comfort in during his own life. “The Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks Act” was passed on July 29th, 2021.
“I am beyond grateful to share my story in hopes of providing awareness for veterans, active military, and Gold Star families to experience the same joy and healing that Alex got to experience so profoundly in the outdoors,” said Henkel. “The horrific death of Alex and the beautiful life we built so passionately together was world-shattering, but I am humbled that something as beautiful as the “Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks Act” could come from it. I have constantly questioned and sought out my purpose since I was airlifted out of that canyon, and knowing Alex will be memorialized forever in this way is all I could ask for. He is the reason more veterans than ever can utilize our national parks and explore the infinite corners of this country, which is so beautiful you can’t help but stop and appreciate the intoxicating love Alex had for them.”
“We’re honored to be able to share Emily and Alex’s moving story and to bring greater awareness to the act that came from it,” said Bill Harmon, General Manager at Goal Zero. “Like Alex and Emily, we believe nature can be incredibly healing for physical and mental health.” In conjunction with the release of this film, Goal Zero now offers a 20% discount to veterans and active-duty military through a GovX integration on its website, with the hope of making access to the outdoors easier and more enjoyable.”
The full film can be viewed here, and those interested in signing up for the GovX discount can do so here.

]]>A new survey from Goal Zero found that only 15% of Americans have a home backup solution, with 61% saying that they wish they had a reliable source of backup power
SALT LAKE CITY — September 27, 2022 - Goal Zero, a portable energy leader, today announced its inaugural annual report on consumer behavior and attitudes toward power usage and outages. The report surveyed adults across the U.S. to learn how Americans are increasingly concerned about power outages, their feelings on clean alternative power solutions, and their knowledge of backup power options.
“No matter where you live in America, you’ve undoubtedly felt the effects of power loss from natural disasters, blackouts, aging power grids, or any number of other reasons,” said Trevor Lambert, Head of Marketing at Goal Zero. “With more and more people working from home, or attending school online, we are more reliant than ever on electricity to run our daily lives. Backup power has turned into a necessity for nearly everyone, and green, reliable systems can keep families safe, connected and minimize the effects of power outages.”
To learn more about the survey, the full report can be viewed here. The following is a brief summary of the results:
The State of the Power Consumer
The survey found that consumers often aren’t familiar with their power consumption. In fact, 43% of Americans don’t know how much power they use and 22% don’t know which devices and appliances in their home use the most power.
Additionally, the survey confronted several myths about how Americans think about power. These include:
The Impact of Power Outages
Nearly everyone has experienced a power outage at some point, and the survey found that the majority (84%) of Americans are worried about power outages and 26% feel vulnerable about power outages and unsafe.
Goal Zero found that the top concerns for Americans when the power goes out are being unable to cook food or food spoiling (70%) and that they might get too hot or too cold (65%), while nearly a third (31%) stated no longer having hot water as a top concern.
Increasing power outages across the country come at both an emotional and financial cost to consumers. Americans face power outages on average twice a year, with 26% saying they’ve experienced three or more in the last twelve months. 32% of Americans living in the South say they’ve experienced three or more power outages in the last twelve months, compared to just 22% in each of the other census regions.
Two-thirds (65%) of Americans say that when the power goes out at their residence, it’s disruptive to their daily life. With food costs alone, Americans have lost $109.91 on average in the last twelve months due to power outages, and one in four (27%) Americans say that in the last twelve months, a power outage has disrupted their ability to work normally for their job — being unable to work for 9 hours and 36 minutes, on average.
America is Ready for Backup Power
With outages causing such a severe impact on consumers' lives, it’s no surprise that the majority of Americans want backup power, with 61% saying that they wish they had a reliable source of backup power at their residence.
There are many key motivators for having residential backup power, and some of the top reasons include:
Even with that desire for a reliable backup power system, only 15% of Americans currently have a home backup solution. For most, clean backup power is a priority, with 51% of Americans interested in a backup power source if it meant they could reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and be more sustainable.
Sustainability is increasingly important to consumers across the country. The survey found that of those interested in backup power sources, 61% would be willing to pay extra for a sustainable backup power solution that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, and 78% consider solar generators “green”, and 38% consider portable gas generators “dirty”.

Methodology
Goal Zero conducted this research using an online survey prepared by Method Research and distributed by Dynata among n=2,000 adults (age 26+) in the United States, with n=1,500 nationally representative according to census targets on geography and household income, with an additional n=500 augment sample among California residents. Data was collected from June 27 to July 12, 2022.

“It’s often human nature to put long-term planning and emergency preparedness on the backburner, especially during good times, but the pandemic has put those things squarely at the top of people’s to-do lists,” said Bill Harmon, general manager at Goal Zero. “As we found from the study and is backed up from direct outreach to us at Goal Zero, more than ever people are thinking about how to prepare for emergencies, from powering their essential items to personal finance, to food storage and more. COVID-19 has caused a major shift in the way people are thinking about preparedness.”
The findings highlighted the fact that the general population isn’t currently prepared for an emergency of any length of time. This held true for basic needs such as food and water, medications, power and more. However, due to the pandemic, emergency preparedness has turned into a top priority and is just as important as retirement as people shift their mindset to consider investing money into preparedness items in order to feel more secure about their future. Other key findings include:
Backup Power
Of those polled, Goal Zero found that 61% of respondents have no form of backup power for emergencies and that while most (88%) feel they are prepared for a short power outage (48 hrs or less), only half (53%) feel prepared for a power outage over 48 hours. Highlighting just how important our electronics, and phones especially, are to our daily lives, cell phones are the number one thing respondents wouldn’t give up in an emergency (48%) with their vehicle coming in a distant second (15.7%).
Emergency Preparedness
68% of those surveyed rarely or never thought about emergency preparedness before COVID-19, but 78% think more about their level of emergency preparedness since the pandemic began. Highlighting an overall lack of preparedness, 47% of those surveyed said they would have to leave their home in case of emergency because they are so underprepared. Of those a quarter (23%) wouldn’t even know where to go.
Surprisingly, more than a quarter (28%) don’t even have any emergency water storage. Of those who said they were severely underprepared, 37% don’t feel comfortable asking for help in their neighborhood or complex in an emergency. This is an interesting finding showing not only individual under-preparedness but also neighborhood-wide under-preparedness.
Financial Preparedness
Pre-COVID-19 nearly half (45%) of respondents were saving no money each month for emergencies, with that number dropping significantly to only 18% since the pandemic started. A third (33%) were even motivated to learn how to create a budget.
The pandemic has created a major shift in people’s long-term planning as well. Pre-pandemic, 65% would rather contribute to a 401K than to emergency preparedness, however since COVID-19 started, that number has dropped significantly to 49% with more than 50% reporting they would rather spend money on emergency preparedness.
Humanity and New Skills
Trying times often show us both the best and the worst of ourselves. According to the survey, 30% of respondents say the pandemic has made them view humanity more negatively. Especially younger generations, who tended to view it even more negatively than older (37% vs 22%).
During quarantine, many people found themselves with added time on their hands as things like commutes, eating out and other socialization were either eliminated or significantly cut back. With that added time, many looked for new skills that would not only fill that time but may help them during a prolonged quarantine period. These included growing a garden (35%), creating a budget (33%), baking bread (26%) and canning and bottling food (21%).
To see the full summary of the survey results please visit: https://www.goalzero.com/product-features/emergency-prep-survey/
Methodology
Generated by Goal Zero and fielded in June 2020, the survey collected online responses via SurveyMonkey from 1,040 U.S. consumers who are over the age of 18.

]]>“Since creating the power station category, we’ve seen a tremendous increase in interest and demand for our Yeti products. The addition of the Yeti 1000X meets that demand and gives consumers a size that is powerful, versatile, and at an affordable price,” said Bill Harmon, general manager at Goal Zero. “Whether it’s running a refrigerator or CPAP machine during a power outage, or throwing it in the car to power your next trip, consumers will love the versatility of the Yeti 1000X to provide clean, reliable power wherever they may be.”
Industry-leading features
With a lithium-ion battery at its core, the Yeti 1000X equips consumers with safe, clean, portable power for camping, tailgating, off-grid events, workshops, and emergency power during an outage. With its versatile array of ports, users can power a wide range of devices with seven different port options including fast-charging 60W USB-C Power Delivery, multiple USB-A ports, regulated 12V, and two 120V AC ports.
The Yeti 1000X also offers multiple recharging options. Included with purchase, the 120W Power Supply makes it possible to recharge the Yeti 1000X in just 9 hours. Thanks to the addition of a new industry-leading 600W High Power Port, users can also recharge in as little as 2 hours with the Yeti X 600W Power Supply (sold separately).
As with the rest of the Yeti X line, users can experience virtually unlimited power, by charging the Yeti 1000X from the sun with Goal Zero’s portable solar panels while away from the grid, and keep it topped off from a wall outlet when at home. An integrated MPPT charge controller ensures users are getting the most efficient solar charge possible.
The Yeti ecosystem
Along with the 600W High Power Supply, the Yeti 1000X can integrate into a number of accessories as part of the larger Yeti ecosystem. This includes the Home Integration Kit (HIK), which allows the Yeti X to integrate directly with people’s home circuits. The HIK is a manual transfer switch that integrates a Yeti X Power Station (1000X or larger) directly with the home’s electrical panel.
To further expand storage capacity, the Yeti 1000X can be chained to the Link and Tank system of lead-acid batteries to customize and expand energy storage capacity to meet any individual’s specific power needs. Along with the Link and Tank, consumers can integrate the Yeti X with their vehicle to charge from the alternator while on the move. The Vehicle Integration Kit (VIK) allows users to hook their Yeti up to an adventure rig in a few easy steps to collect and store power throughout the journey.
The Yeti 1000X has an MSRP of $1,299.95 and is currently available at GoalZero.com, Amazon.com, and select Sportsman’s Warehouse, Bass Pro, Cabela’s, and REI (online) locations.
