How does a protection plan protect my Goal Zero products?

A protection plan offers three years of coverage that begins when the manufacturer warranty on select Goal Zero products expires. If a covered Goal Zero product breaks down due to ordinary use during the protection plan term, you can file a claim and you’ll be provided with instructions on next steps. If the problem is determined to be a covered breakdown, the product will be repaired or replaced.

How do I request service?

If your product breaks down after your manufacturer warranty expires, you can request service online 24/7/365. You can also file your claim by phone. You will need to have your account number, or the make and model of your covered product to request service. Once your request has been received, you will be sent instructions and information on next steps.”

What is covered under the protection plan?

Protection plans cover breakdowns that occur under normal use and that prevent your Goal Zero product from performing the function for which it was designed. Covered breakdowns include material defects. Protection plans do not cover breakdowns due to operator negligence, improper or incomplete installation, unauthorized modifications or alterations, introduction of foreign objects, accidental damage, abuse, misuse, vandalism, theft, rust, corrosion, animal or insect infestation, damage caused by lightning or any other insurable event or act of nature. You Should Know:

      • If you decide to sell or gift your Goal Zero product, your Protection Plan can be transferred to the new owner*.
      • If a covered breakdown can't be repaired, we may replace the product by shipping a new or refurbished product or issuing a cash payment or store credit. If we ship a new or refurbished replacement product, it will have similar features and functionality but may not be identical in model, fit or finish to the original product.
      • Protection Plans are for one 3-year term and are non-renewable.
      • You can cancel your Protection Plan at any time. If you cancel within the full manufacturer warranty period, you will receive a full refund of the plan's purchase price.  If you cancel after the start of the plan term, you will receive a partial refund prorated to the remainder of the term, less any claims paid, subject to state law.

      • This plan is provided and administered by NRG Protects Inc. This is a plan for repair or replacement of your covered product and is not a contract of insurance. This coverage will go into effect at the end of your original manufacturer’s warranty. If your product requires service, you must submit a service request. If your covered item is replaced under the plan, or if a cash payment or store credit is issued in lieu of replacement, NRG Protect's obligations under the plan will end and your protection plan will no longer be in effect. Protection Plans Don't Cover:

  • Breakdown because of operator or owner negligence (such as failure to maintain or operate the covered product according to the owner’s manual, user guide, or other product literature), improper or incomplete installation, unauthorized modifications or alterations, introduction of foreign objects into the covered product, accidental damage, abuse, misuse, vandalism, theft, rust, corrosion, animal or insect infestation, damage caused by lightning or any insurable event or act of nature. 
  • Breakdown arising from a manufacturer’s defect or recall or while the Covered Product is still under the manufacturer’s or distributor’s warranty.
  • Breakdown excluded under the manufacturer’s or distributor’s warranty had the warranty not expired, such as problems with a product purchased through an online auction house.
  • Damage resulting from any alteration of the covered product or repairs not authorized by NRG Protects, or made by parties not specifically authorized by NRG Protects.
  • Non-functional parts or defects, such as cosmetic defects, trim parts, etc.
  • Preventative maintenance.
  • Expendable items.
  • Normal battery degradation over the course of time.
  • Accessories and supplies, including external power supplies.
  • Noise or vibration that is excessive or uncharacteristic, but doesn’t impact the performance of the covered product.
