Ode to the Road: The Pacific Crest Trail

Since our inception, Goal Zero has been a champion of the “Get Out, Stay Out” mentality. We encourage people to spend more time outside and push themselves beyond their comfort zone. Thru hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail are the embodiment of this mentality, logging 2,650 miles on foot over the course of four months. When Robbie Kerback, Product Manager at Goal Zero and a PCT thru hiker himself, suggested we power a trail magic station for stop number two on our road trip, we readily agreed.

Handing out “trail magic” is a well-loved tradition amongst the thru hiking community. Past hikers, family, friends, and complete strangers make their way to different spots along the trail to hand out cold drinks and snacks, a fresh pair of socks or even nail clippers.

Our crew set up camp at Walker Pass Campground. Here, with the help of our friends Katie Boué and Spaghetti, we powered a trail magic station and served up ice cream cones, brats, and beers to deserving hikers.

This year, Goal Zero turns 10. To mark this milestone, we took a road trip across the American West. Every stop brought a unique adventure—from climbing in the Alabama Hills to solar installations in Monument Valley to zipping around the Utah desert on electric-powered bikes, and more. Follow along each week as we release a new episode showcasing a different facet of our brand and telling the stories of those we met along the way.
