I saw this flashlight at Lowe's the other day and grabbed it for $35. The flashlight works great, I really like the two different choices of light source. The ability to charge the flashlight with AC, DC, Solar and crank make this tool very versitile and really useful. It's built well and feels sturdy. The only thing I would change about this light is the retractable hook. I feels kind of cheap compared to the rest of the light and it does not have a closed loop just an open hook which is not very secure in some conditions. I believe a carabiner style hook would make this tool a perfect 5 stars. I would love to see another product that has all of the same charging options but with 100 or 150 lumens, even if it shortens the battery life. Thanks!

I'm an Emergency Disaster worker & came across your light. It was love at first sight... a well made, druable, and powerful Emergency light. Best I've seen yet. Our City Emergency thought so to as he bought one also. I bought 3 (2 for my grown kids as christmas presents). We all use it as a regular flashlight it works so well. One Question: If we only use it a little or not at all... should we leave it on a window ledge in the sun 24-7 or just leave it in ambiant light so we do not over charge the battery?

This is a great light. Very light weight and bright. Hurts your eyes looking at the light output which is a plus. One question on charging though. I noticed when I crank the light, one red light lights up. When I solar charge it, the other red light comes on. But when I wall charge it neither of the red lights come on. Is this how it works or is mine defective? I wall charged it for 24hrs and still no lights. It would be nice if maybe both red lights come on when wall or car charging and go away when its complete. Thanks.

The torch light crank is just what the doctor ordered. I have a number of rechargeable lights - crank, plug-in, battery cell powered, 12v, etc. My most used one is a crank, ac & dc option with supermagnet with hook: very multi-function but with older led bulbs on circuit boards. When I saw this Gen #1 with all the same features plus polished reflector, SS LED and the solar panel that got my attention. The rubberized exterior is very helpful. I do note some concerns for Gen #2. The plastic hook is too weak and sticks when pushing back into unit. make it stainless steel (light, strong, rust-proof). The battery should be lithium to get best longevity and afford higher wattage unless the battery gets too hot inside charging. A Cree 8 watt flash light i saw today has the lithium battery and separate charger with wall plug: nice battery & bulb but a hassle to carry a charger around and take out to charge. I expect to use the solar panel built in almost exclusively. I often will not have the charger chords with me or they get misplaced, lost, etc. The crank and especially the solar panel is the smart way. The crank handle also needs to be stronger (not plastic). I have also damaged a few dynamo flashlights by winding too vigorously. If the dynamo capacitor can be made more robust it will compensate for the very hardy people most likely to crank. A great light, and brilliant concept. As noted by other reviewers, this light is quite versatile in its functionality and charging options. Two things to note however - 1) Under Tech.Specs. please note the size. This light is big, but fortunately it is not that heavy. When considering where/how to pack this thing, its size may be a factor. 2) It's all plastic. I personally would have liked metal components at its most stressed/load bearing points, ie., the end hook and crank arm. One just has to be cognizant not to overload these parts when using them, or they may break. I fear the light may also not fare so well if accidentally dropped. I had to request a new light because apparently I went too crazy on the crank arm - but customer service was excellent, hence the five-star rating. Overall a good light - lightweight, good ergonomic feel, and bright under both direct and floodlight options. Would I buy another light? Yes - now that I know what I know about it.

I finally made the purchase and am very pleased with the versatility of the flashlight. I am yet to use it in field but like the flexibility in terms of various charging options. The light is fairly bright both in the flashlight and floodlight mode, though I personally prefer the directed flashlight mode which appears to me to be brighter (honestly, if you do simple maths it should be reverse though). The only problem I have is that the ac/dc adapter that is shipped with the product is labeled 120V 60Hz whereas the input voltage specification in my country is 240V 50Hz. Can I safely use the same adapter to charge the light or will I need to buy a separate one? Overall quite satisfied with the purchase.

I am keen on buying the goal zero solar crank flashlight as I find it very useful for emergencies and my rides to remote places. But, I had few questions regarding the specs: - The light output specified is 13000 MCD and 20 Lumens, while the power consumption is 0.25W. Is this per LED spec or for the flashlight itself? I think it is per LED but the language in specification is confusing. - From the product picture it seems the flashlight has 5 LEDs on the top unlike the specification which says there are only 4. Which one is correct? - Is the battery easily changeable (in case I need to replace them after their lifetime)?
