I'm commenting on and answering my own question here. As the answer above by the Goal Zero person says, the Torch requires an AC wall charger of 4.5 V DC output.
There are several answers in this Q & A section, including an answer to this one, that say that the charger should have a 12 V output. THIS IS WRONG. The Torch should be accepting a 4.5 V charge, whether from an AC wall charger, or from a 12 V cigarette car adapter. Repeat: the output of the charger should be 4.5 Volts DC, NOT 12 V DC.
CAUTION: Typical wall AC Chargers that provide 12 V DC output have a plug that will plug in to the Torch. I believe that these chargers will damage the Torch. Mine failed after this was done.
Even the instructions that come with the Torch are misleading and incomplete and SHOULD BE REVISED. Additionally, the Torch is NOT labeled for which voltage to use, and because the 12 V charger will fit (and possibly damage it), I suggest that labels be placed on the chargers and on the Torch.
