I bought this for myself, but accidentally left it at my boyfriend's house one day and now he won't give it back! He loves it and is constantly using it for all sorts of things - working under the hood of the car, looking for something behind the couch, walking the dog, you name it. It is amazingly bright and we've used it for several hours at one time without it showing any signs of dimming. Then he just sits it on the windowsill to charge. I plugged it in the wall once for the initial charge, and we've never plugged it in since. It seems to charge enough just sitting it in the window, which isn't particularly in a sunny location (and we live in Washington, which insn't particularly sunny anyway)I guess I'll have to buy a second one if I want one at my house...

I am stoked to have one of these, sure to use it for camping/car, a lot.

I have five suggestions to make it even better:
1) a red flashlight for using in camp at night so as not to blind me/my campmates
2) same red light, but flashing strobe, for emergency marking
3) the hook on the bottom seems flimsy, and does not retract all the way into the base. I predict is is the first part to break off. I may break it off on purpose so that the light will stand up on its own... but I also want to be able to hang it.
4) it would have been so easy to use a micro or mini usb port to charge! instead of the cylindrical charger. everyone has usb chargers floating around. the goal zero RockOut speaker system... for example. In fact: how cool would it be if the crank could be used to output usb voltage? regardless of the output: the usb input would mean one less charger/cord to tote.
5) the solar panel only tilts in one direction, which is better than being fixed in place, but not as good as swiveling. on a panel this small, directionality makes a big difference.

okay, a sixth want: if the crank were in the middle of the light, and had a hole in it, you could hang the work-light facing downward. (or add simple D-ring loop under the solar panel, for looping a carabiner/string through it, to hang).

ahh, and, make the battery user-replaceable. batteries don't last forever, and they get better all the time....

I'm stoked on the product, but if any/all of these thins were included, it would be even better for my needs.

This light will be great for camping and our all-too-frequent power outages. I keep it in a window with the solar panal up so it stays charged. The flashlight beam is strong, and the task light is also useful as a lantern. After a night's use, just leave it in the sun to recharge. If you have access to electricity, the light can be plugged in. Or hand cranked. I look forward to having it during our next camping trip, and it will be very useful during our next multi-day power outage.

The only concerns I have are:

1)Durability/ construction - as it might hold up better if made from composite or lightweight metal.

2) This flashlight does not have the ability to focus/ narrow the light beam such what is available with other products. I've used this light outside at night and found it is great for illuminating an area at close and medium range. But, if you need to use this to search for something farther away, then another product that concentrates the beam is far better.

I have one still in the package for Emergency use but would like to know if you will add this enhancement to your product?? I would gladly exchange this flashlight for one with that feature.

I just bought one today and it looks like a great product and with all the good reviews on this product, i'm loving it already. Question: It's not so clear on the manual. It said flip it out to use. Do you mean to flip the solar panel out when it's charged under the sun? And flip it in when I use the light? Thank you so much.

  To charge it you will want to make sure the panel is in the light, it can be left folded up or flipped out. When flipped out the panel acts as a stand.

  The above answer is incorrect. One light indicates power is being received from the solar panel. The second indicates power is being received from the crank. There is no power cord charging indicator. There is no low power light. The light just dims.

  The Torch Flashlight has a built in charge controller that will trickle charge the battery to maintain it at a full charge, and yes it's safe to leave plugged in charging.

  This flashlight uses a Ni-MH battery. It doesn't develop a 'memory' like NiCads do, but all rechargeable batteries should be cycled from time to time (fully charge it, let it run down, fully charge it again). Fortunately this one has a hand crank, so if you find you need it at a time when the battery is dead you can simply turn the crank for 1 minute and get 10 minutes of use.

I would like to know what the wall adapter watts/amperage numbers should be. I am unable to readily lay hands upon it for several months and unless I run across it and it actually says Goal Zero on it I will not know if I find the right one or not.   Yes it is okay. You don't have to though it should hold a charge for 1-2 months and we recommend using your devices every month. And at that time you could put it back in the window to charge.
