Great product! Very reasonable price too. I bought 8 of them to share with friends. Question about recharge though. Will I damage the battery if I recharge before complete drain or if I let charge for longer than 2 hours?
Thanks.
Staff Response
You are a nice friend! You are fine to charge it before a complete drain and to let it charge longer.

Super cool and durable speaker. My son backpacks with it on his arm listening to the Beatles (8 yrs old with great taste already in music ha,ha). I use the speaker when ice fishing and it has always outlasted me for the day out, usually 6 to 8 hours. I'm wondering about charging as the red charging light doesn't come on now during charging. Any suggestions. Thanks much, CC

We just bought the Rockout speakers today from Costco and love the sound from my iPod and iPad , but I can't get any sound out of my first generation iPhone. Thru the speakers. Is it not compatible with these speakers?
Staff Response
I am pretty sure it works with anything with the right input port. Contact support@goalzero.com to verify.

bought 1 today at Costco for 22.99 dollars. I work in a construction and use to have those bulky heavy dewalt radio i like them although it irritates mecarrying back and forth. With this Rock out speaker, its tiny but packs a punch as much as my other radios. And thankfully, no batteries needed! =), Mahalo!
Staff Response
It surprises everyone with the power it packs! Thanks for the shout out.

let me start by saying i have owned at least 6 different portable speakers and these are definitely my favorite.. i was just walking around costco when i heard music playing. as i got to the tables i realized it was coming from these small speakers! i love how rugged they are- all of the other small speakers i've owned aren't as portable. i think i'm going to buy a pair for my dad since he's always working on his car in the garage!
Staff Response
They are very loud and rugged. Great gift for your Dad.

I would likely never hear of Goal Zero, if they weren't set up at Costco. If only you'd been there a month ago, I'd have saved about $80 on a speaker for my iPhone. This thing is brilliant. Way louder than any others I've owned. Way sturdier. Way better and way cheaper.
I like the suggestions for improvement that I've read. I wish I had something more to add. Even without improvements, it gets 5 Stars across the board from me.
Staff Response
Thanks for your stellar recommendation!

Where were you years ago?
Over the years, my wife and I have purchased several brands of 'portable' speakers for our camp outings. Nothing fancy, just general camping. It's not like we are adventure campers, hiking over mountains or rafting white water rapids. None of our former speaker purchases has worked or lasted very long.
This past July I was in Arizona to do some camping and light hiking with my son. On the way to the Grand Canyon we came across a vendor's display at a store. After seeing the product we went about the duties we had stopped for, but went back for these speakers.
These speakers have out-lasted and out-performed all the other manufacturer's speaker systems we have bought - and for a lot less money.
We are very pleased. Very, very pleased.
Have not needed any service, but the sales team we encountered were great! They let me play, poke, and mess around with the products in their display. They knew the products would sell them selves. And they did. Service rating=Sales Team
Staff Response
They are amazing. Thanks for the feedback.

Amazing. We were going to buy an iHome for our iPods this year, and we found this gem while we were ordering a solar panel. It's been six months, we use this for everything. It's durable, the sound is great, and we can literally take it anywhere. It's been on long camping trips, it's improved long work commutes, and we never watch a movie on an iPod or our laptop without it.
Staff Response
This little speaker does surprisingly a great job. Thanks for the feedback.

I'd purchased a Guide10 kit a few months back with plans to use it on RAGBRAI 2011. Imagine my surprise when at the start town (Glenwood) I found a GoalZero tent at the product expo.
A friend of mine seemed interested and when I explained that my kit worked well with my HTC EVO he purchased a kit as well.
Not to be outdone I decided I really, really needed the Rock Out Speakers so I could play my music while we rode across the state of Iowa.
The speakers performed beautifully. The charge would last all day (or at least as long as I wanted to listen). The sound was great for speakers this size. In fact the sound was loud enough I got lots of compliments on both the sound and my music choice (I rolled with Bluegrass through the cornfields).
Coupled with an iPod shuffle I've been, quite literally, a happy camper.
I think the fellow in the tent actually took a picture of me with my bike and my Guide10/Rock Out combo all set up and ready to go.
Aloha,
Bob

I was walking through Costco last week and heard some good music...followed it to a Goal Zero display and was amazed at the sound coming from a little speaker...actually, two. They were so good - I bought one immediately. I spend a good bit of time on my deck and have never been happy with the sound quality coming from my outdoor speaker when connected to my iPad, or iPod. I plugged this little speaker in and was thrilled...good sound...balanced...not tinny at all. Then I thought that having two would even be better, so I went back the next day and bought another. Now I have stereo on my deck...they just sound so good. I'm saving up now to buy more things that I can charge with solar power...probably buy some lights for my deck now...anyway - this is high quality stuff, in my estimation...and I'm pretty picky! I think it was an excellent purchase and I can't wait to show everyone...
Staff Response
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. Glad to help you enjoy your deck further!

I just bought this little guy today and it is amazing! The sound quality on every portable speaker that I've heard up until this point has always been almost unbearable but these speakers are awesome! I was delightfully surprised by how great they sounded right out of the package. Even though it is a little extra weight, I will most definitely be taking it with me on a month-long backpacking trip on the Colorado Trail. I love the idea of being able to use my Nomad 7 and this in conjunction to enjoy my music in the middle of nowhere. Thanks Goal Zero!!!
Staff Response
So true. Also you don't have to worry too much about getting these bad boy speakers in the weather. Very rugged. Have fun in the backcountry.

The Rock Out speaker sounds very good for its size. Mid range tones are what the speakers are best at but they are clear and loud. Battery life seems very good. My only real complaint is the system will not play FM radio using my Sony mp3 player. Ive used the player with other speakers and they work fine. I wish I had another mp3 player so I could test its FM on the speaker. It's worth keeping even with no FM performance.
Staff Response
That is strange. Contact support@goalzero.com to troubleshoot further. Anything that has the 3.5mm audio port the Rock Out will plug into and broadcast the sound. It doesn't matter the frequency.

I rarely write a product review...the Rock Out speaker is one of the best products I have ever bought. You can see it attached to my bike. I have a trailer on the back and my 2 children love the fact that we can be riding and listening to music together! It is durable, easily portable, very clear and loud (a good feature when riding on the bike), VERY easy to use, protects your phone, and has SO many uses...camping, biking, hiking etc. I have even plugged it into my laptop to enjoy a much higher quality sound when watching movies on there! I can think of dozens of useful ways to enjoy this! This little guy is amazing! I will be buying more as gifts and telling all my friends about it! :) Maybe I will ask for the solar pack (with the light attachment) for my birthday! My wife never knows what to get me...that would be a perfect gift!!
Staff Response

I have just purchased a pair of these speakers. I really like the ruggedness of them and the sound quality seems good for there size. When I went to initially charge them up I was not certain as to when they were fully charged? I assumed it was when the red light went out but I unplugged the USB cord and plugged it back in and the red light re-illuminated for about 10 more minutes prior to it going out again. There was no documentation informing me when the unit was fully charged?
The other comment I have is that the cord that comes out of the unit to be plugged into your Ipod would be a better design if it were modular and not hard wired. At least a mechanical strain relief would help prevent it from being pulled out.
Please accept these comments as constructive design input. I like the device very much and look forward in strapping it on my bike for long rides. I did speak to customer service today and they were very polite and professional.
Staff Response
We appreciate your comments. It really does help us design better generations of products. Keep them coming. The charge lasts an extra long time. If it is not lasting that long please contact us to troubleshoot. support@goalzero.com

These are the Little Speakers That Can. I recommend these speakers to hikers who daypack. You cannot run the batteries down in one day. If your hikes last more than a day and the sun is shining pick up the Nomad 7 solar panel. It will charge your Ipod and your speakers in a reasonable amount of time. THANK YOU GOAL ZERO>

All I can say is that i have owned this speaker for a little over a month, and i have only charged it once when i got it and its still running, i have been trying to run the battery down and it has been unsuccessful, i started running the battery since yesterday non stop and its still going on for about 18 hours now, i think it can last like 48 hours of use or more, how great is that?
Staff Response
It does last for an extremely long time. The only thing that effects how long it will run is the volume level. The louder it is the quicker it will run out but at a moderate level - it will go forever.

Wearing earbuds during cycling can be dangerous since you are unable to hear other sounds to help warn you of danger. This external speaker is great way to listen to tunes while cycling. My cycling buddies can also appreciate when I bring along this music box along long rides and will be taking this with me on an upcoming 7 day ride.

I've owned a lot of "portable" speakers over the years, many of which were smaller than the rock out, but much less portable. They always took a fist full of batteries and lasted a couple hours on a good day. The rock out speaker blows my mind by how loud it is in such a small package. It sounds awesome, and has great carry options. You can thread your belt through the shock cord, loop the ends of the shock cord together and use a compression strap on your pack, or if you're ok with it bouncing around a bit you can hang it almost anywhere! If it was water proof I would have bought more than 3!
For a high capacity rechargeable battery powered speaker I'm almost in total disbelief of the quality and value of this speaker. Give them to your friends who always complain about their music accessories failing them and watch the smile on their face.
Haven't used the service, but all of the information I've read on the site is very informative and well put.
Staff Response
The Rock Out is very surprising in its sound and length of time between charges. It is so nice to see a customer enjoying this as much as you are!

I gave some of these out for Christmas. Everybody loves them. Out of the many small speakers I have purchased over the years for my iPod, these are my favorite. Just hook in the cable, throw your iPod inside and latch it to your pants or your dog or whatever. It is nice to not have earbuds in all of the time. I even use these at work during computer demonstrations. Laptop sound is not good until it is hooked into some nice speakers. Thanks Goal0

This is a great little portable speaker! It looks durable and well made with quality materials. The sounds is excellent, leagues above my laptop speakers, and surprisingly loud for the size. It is about the size of a 2 lb block of tillamook cheese, which is a really reasonable size for a lot of activities. I haven't really had a chance to test the battery life. So far I am very pleased, definitely worth it!
If I had to pick a "con" it would be that the audio cable seems a little flimsy and it is short which is great for an MP3 player but not so versatile for plugging into other things such as a laptop. If it had a removable/interchangeable cable it would rate a perfect 5 stars.

Let me just start by saying i hate headphones especially in the great outdoors now i will never be without music on my outings.
Great full sound for such a small unit actually has some bottom end to it. the volume is better than expected mind you this is a small portable speaker system
but just loud enough to rock out.
It perfectly holds my samsung captivate
Again amazing so glad i bought it best of all is the price.
Staff Response
So glad you are enjoying it. It is surprisingly good sound.
