My wife has sleep aphnea. She must have a breathing machine to sleep at night. I keep two batteries charged all of the time by my two solar panels.
At 3:00 AM, we had a blackout that lasted several hours. I just got up, brought down one of the batteries and plugged my wife's machine in. She then was able to sleep. The same thing happened the next day. I can keep one battery charging while I am using the other or link them both together for more power. I am going to buy more.

I really liked this device; it was handy, easy to set up and keep in line with direct sunlight, and simple. It charged my Escape 150 rapidly.

However, the two latches that keep the briefcase closed both broke 3 days into a 12 day camping trip. Fortunately, this panel stayed at basecamp, so it wasn't moving around a whole lot, but it did keep flopping open when packing to come home, and unpacking at the house. I ended up having to secure the handles with duct tape until I could return it. I think I might try a Nomad 27.5 next.

I guess tiny plastic latches aren't the best engineering design on a hard use item, eh?

In a previous answer to a question about the weather resistance of the Escape 30 solar panel, the Merchant response: "Panels are meant to be in the weather so no worries". I have several of these panels that have remained outside for several (2-3) months. I have noticed that most of the screws around the solar cells have rust (photo attached circled in RED) while others have not yet rusted (photo attached circled in BLUE). I'm thinking of caulking over the non-rusted ones and to use a rust converter and then caulk the rusted ones. So far everything else appears to be good with this product.

I am using two (2) Escape 30's to charge my Yeti 1250. The input is OK, could be better. I know the Yeti can be purchased with two 30 watt panels, but I like the style and portability of the Escape. Too bad they don't have the oompf I had hoped for.

I use the Solar briefcase in a wide variety ways, but primarily to recharge my Escape 150 which powers LED lights and recharges devices, lights, and speakers. I especially like the packaging of the briefcase as it sufficiently protects the panels during transport. My briefcase has been rained on a few times and I have not noticed any usability impact.

I purchased this to recharge my Escape 150 and it does a great job from full sun to overcast skies. Most recently took it on a 30 mile trek (handcart pioneer re-enactment) through some fairly rugged back-country and it survived the bouncing around beautifully. Recharged the 150 in about 4 hours with full sun (150 had 20% charge left), 8 hours with overcast conditions (150 had 40% charge left). I like the design - briefcase style - which protects the panels when traveling. The built in legs make it quick and easy to set up.

Good panels, good quality etc...I have yet to get them in the rain (they are supposed to handle that fine); but so far they work well and I would definetely recommend them.

Just remember, the math is not likely going to work for you.

Example, I have 4 of these panels and a 150w power supply (and a 350w, but, not using that in this example). You would then think at 30w a panel it would take a little over an hour to charge the 150w with these 4 panels. Well, if you were in the Nevada desert at high noon on a sunny & clear summer day it might. But in other conditions it will take considerably longer. For me it takes a few hours.

So, just remember the ratings on these are in "optimal conditions" - take them with a grain of salt.

I've looked at other systems out there and for the money, you just can't beat the goal zero stuff for quality and how interchangeable the components are.

I pretty much never give anything 5 stars as everything can always be improved...these are close to 5 though, if they were 150w panels in the same package, I would definetely give them 5 stars!

I got two of these in my recent purchase. One with the 150 Escape kit and another extra to have and combine two panels for 60w of power. I bought the Briefcase model as I wanted a mobile panel that was protected in travel. Also the built in prop stands are important. The other Boulder 15w and 30w panels look fine, but they would have to be mounted somehow or propped up on ground, and also you would have to have a protective travel case. The Escape panel has all of that built in and I setup on roof of my small trailer without any issues, as the design allows the panel to be self standing and secure. You can also run a security cable thur the handles of the sturdy case to secure the panels to your RV when you are not home so they do not easily be grabbed by someone. The built in output cord is about 9 ft long so an extension cord may not be needed. Only potential issue I can see is the plastic hook thingies that keep the case closed look to be a bit likely to break down the road. otherwise a great panel for camping RV use in basecamp.

  The adapter you need is a Solar 4.7mm to Input 8.0mm Adapter to chain with the Boulder 30. The Escape 30 would need to be at the end as it does not have an input. You can also use the adapter to plug into the Extreme 350.

  All Goal Zero solar panels are waterproof and may be left outside. Use of a stand or tripod is good, but not required. Power packs must always be kept out of the rain. To pick the proper power solution, you have to add up the watts from the appliances you want to use and compare that to power pack and solar panel capacity. High draw appliances like heaters, refrigerators and water kettles would require a significant investment (chained Yetis and 4 Boulder 30 panels). That would probably not be cost effective. For laptops and small electronics, solar power is great. For bigger stuff, a gas generator is more cost effective.

  Yes this panel will be able to collect energy even behind a window, however do suggest that you have the panel in direct sunlight for best performance. Not all panels will charge up in low or poor solar conditions, however like I said these should be able to. However if the conditions are poor outside then you will have more difficulty charging when in a window.

  The Escape 30 solar panel only has one plug that is a 4.7MM plug so there is no way to connect a USB device such as a phone or plug in the Guide 10 or Guide 10 Plus to it. It specifically designed to work with the Escape 150 or other bigger battery packs we have with an adapter.

So it will keep it charged up with out having to check it all the time.

  They do not come chainable; however, pick up one 90814A and one 90804A and it should make four briefcases chainable.

  Yes you can! You can have up to 4 Boulder 30 Panels in a single chain! You can attach up to 8 of these panels to the Yeti 1250.
