I got this with to work with two 30w Briefcase panels. The panels charged the Scout batt just find. This unit is heavy, very sturdy and with rubberized handle and bottom it feels solid built. It weighs about 15 lbs and could be a bit tip-over in some uses. The one thing I saw and I see other posts about, is that the battery charging indicator has some minor flaws...it will only show charging to 80% on my unit, it never gets to 100% or Full, however if you unplug the charging cord, it will show FULL then. I was advised by Goal0 support to disassemble the unit and remove the main red and black cables off the internal square battery, and wait 10 mins, put back on and reassemble. I would not advise anyone to attempt this unless you are used to mechanical stuff and pay attention to how it comes apart. In any event this did not fix my charging indicator, so I decided to exchange for a Sherpa 120 unit as it is smaller and lighter, but way more expensive. The 150 Scout did work fine, it powered stuff and the built in AC UI is nice. It was just not the right product for my needs.

Hello my name is Giovanni Bucio and I am here giving an excellent review about the escape 150. I'm a nutritionist, and independent business owner from Amway Global. I have to be in the city of Chicago, telling the business plan to my elective prospects. I have no time to recharge my Alienware M11X laptop, which requires a lot of power. At home I have the escape 150 recharging with two bolder 15 solar panels from goal zero. Sometimes when I travel kind of far to show the business plan to other families, i tale the escape 150 with me to power up my laptop, smartphone from samsung galaxy s. They recharge while i'm driving in less than three hours. I could have not done this without the escape 150 power pack and the 80 watt inverter supplied with it. Even when I leave the escape 150 at home it can recharge on cloudy days. I have my two solar panels from goal zero on my window and that is how they power my escape 150 and at night it gives me light to power up my light-a-life I have two of them. Thank you goal zero for doing an excellent Eco-Friendly job with your products for people that hike, camp, explore and business people that have no time to recharge their appliances. Thank You Goal Zero.

Understand that Goal Zero came about when someone was traveling in Ghana (or thereabouts). Took two Escape 150 kits (from Costco) to Tanzania and my husband's village--batteries, solar panels and lights. My in-laws now have a small cell phone charging business going as a result (this may be the wilds of Tanzania and Maasai herdsmen, but cell phones are everywhere--electricity isn't).
Gets a bit challenging to charge during the rainy season (which is now), but they still seem to be doing OK.
TSA opened my luggage on the way over--I printed the Web page describing the battery as we had to take it out of the box to get everything to fit. And had to explain the whole concept to the nice people at Tanzania customs going into the country, but they were very excited -- power is a MAJOR issue in Africa, and Tanzania is among the worst of the worst.
My question, though, is about the weight of the battery. In looking at the spec for the Escape 150, it says 3+ pounds. That can't be right--those puppies are HEAVY (with a 50# weight limit, we learned how to spread those across several bags). Am I missing something?
Other than that, we have no issues with the products and are thrilled with the way they're holding up. And Goal Zero is contributing to the economy of a Maasai village close to the Ngorongoro Crater, so there you go!

This speaks to the root of GOAL ZERO and why we even exist! To empower people/lives where quality power does not exist. Sorry about the wrong tech spec on the weight. They are about 13 lbs a piece this has been corrected. Thanks for your work and feedback.

I will admit that the Escape 150/Scout 150 does not need a lot of documentation. On the other hand, I am a computer geek and am accustomed to "robust" documentation. The "manual" I received with my Scout 150 proved to be incomplete!
It expects that when the Scout arrives that it will need to be charged but does not address the possibility that it will arrive fully charged! The problem here is that the graphic display of charge status is not clear. It simply appears that nothing is working. My phone call resolved that matter.
I like to keep a copy of documentation including the warranty online. Going to the Goal0 site does not provide any assistance. Even the specifications are not offered as a PDF. The only manual available is what they provided with the Scout which I guess I will have to scan.
Shame...a PDF copy should be offered! The notes I make on quality, durability, price and service are speculative!
Staff Response
Thanks for the feedback. We are changing a lot of this for 2012 and admit our documentation has been weak.

This little gizmo not only made it down to near the bottom of the Grand Canyon on mule-back, powered essential CF-related medical equipment for five straight days without a recharge, and worked without a single hiccup in 95+ degree (F) heat, but came out of the trip up with more than 50% capacity remaining. In short, this battery spectacularly outperformed my expectations in a very extreme environment, and made possible a whole range of adventures that have never been open to me before. Whoever dreamed up this device - THANK YOU.

I was lucky enough to have one of these along with the nomad solar panels on my tandem journey across the States. Without it we wouldn't have been able to take Chad who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy with us! The battery powered his essential sleep apnea machine at least 8 hours a night for 2 weeks, and those machines use a lot of juice!! given its multiple sockets I was able to charge my camera equipment and phone on it too! Fantastic piece of kit for the home or car camping adventures!!
one criticism - the LCD level meter is not always accurate, but i got one of the early ones so that may well have been fixed!

Wow, what an adventure! Thanks for taking us along.

Last night the power went out here for about an hour. I hooked up the battery to the daisy-chained lights and hung them around the family room. We were just fine reading books and talking until the power came on an hour later. I was pleased to see that after an hour of use the battery still showed 100%. This is the perfect setup to have.
