I live in a remote mountain community and saw this recharging lantern as a compact emergency lighting and recharging device. As I often do multi-day outdoor expeditions, the compactness and charging benefits appeared obvious. I bought it on one of my few treks into the city only to get it home, charged, to find that the red emergency alert mode does not work. Sad, especially given the amount of money I had paid. Given that I get into the city rarely, I might as well just keep it as returning it is too great a hassle. Hope I never have a need for the emergency light.

Overall this is a nice unit. I wish it had better battery life (i.e. Larger battery). I have not used it much yet but I imagine if you use it ti charge things, there might not be enought juice left for the light. I wish it had a high/low switch for the light.

Had this on a camping trip and it was amazing. As my friend pulled out his gas lantern, he had to replace the mantel (he hadn't used it in a while and damaged it during transport), connect the little propane tank, fire it up and click-start it. I pulled this lantern out of the box (it had been charging the night before) and click the switch. The interesting part is that he used the light from this lantern to see what he was doing!

This lantern charged in just a few hours from a home AC plug. It was AMAZINGLY bright in the camp site. I actually had to cover part of the light so as not to disturb other campers. It ran all night long and I was able to bring it into my tent--something my friend couldn't do with his gas lantern! The next day, it was still well charged but everyone took a shot at crank-charging it. Then, everyone at the camp site was charging their cell phones with it. We used it all weekend long by cranking it to keep it charged. What a great product!!

I got 2 of these lights. They put out a good amount of light and the hand crack is a nice option as well. They are very light however bulky. The USB ports do not work well. One does not work at all, the other only charges my Guide 10, but not any of my phones, or any other USB items I have. The base is pretty empty and it would be nice to be able to use the space for something. I'm afraid to use this area for storage since all the electronics are exposed and appears easily broken. An optional add on battery pack would be great for this space as well.

'da bomb!

I have two Light A Life lanterns, a replacement bulb and Rock Out speakers. The speakers are a good value, nice design, last a long time, sound good and I would like to see a larger version (not just daisy chained) for base camps and canoe camps - plenty of space to carry a larger, more powerful unit along. The lights are just great, though I think the 40W rating equivalent is pretty optimistic. The design and manufacture of the units is nicely done and clever, very, very useful in camp. Decent output, long lasting, no heat, durable and so low a draw on a battery pack. I made my spare bulb into a directional lamp for the camp with a clamp-on-light fixture from the hardware store - just excellent and its a wonderful compliment to the other two that I have. No mantles, gas, etc. Just push a button, instant light!. I have nearly two full weeks base camp use on them in the dark NE woods this fall. Nothing but praise for the product. (marketing dept should contact me as I have some thoughts on where you could potentially sells a whole bunch of these...)

What is the best way to store the lighthouse lantern? SHould I fully charge it and put it away? Don't charge it? Leave it plugged in 100% of storage time? As a lantern, I don't have a lot of daily or even monthly need to use it. I bought it more for power outages.

I have a lantern and the first time I used it, I had charged it using the solar panel and it only stayed on for an hour. The second time I charged it from the wall and left it charge for 4 hours, tried it and it worked for almost 6 hours. When I charged it again, using the wall,it only worked for an hour. What am I doing wrong?

  Thanks for contacting Goal Zero! Unfortunately there are no other cables or adapters we offer that would charge the lantern off of the Nomad 7. The only way is using the 12V car charger with the Lantern and plugging it into the 12V female cig adapter on the Nomad 7 to charge it up.

  According to the product user guide, this lantern has a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. You charge it by using the lanterns built in hand crank, or by using either the included AC wall charger or DC car adapter. Hand cranking for 1 minutes = 10 minutes of light time.There is also an optional solar panel available for purchase from Goal Zero that could be used for charging.

  Is the wall charger still plugged in while you're trying to turn it on? If so the lantern will think that it is still charging and won't give off power to turn on the light. You would need to take the wall charger off and turn it on and it should work. If not send an email over to support@goalzero.com or call in 888-794-6250 for further assistance.

  The Lighthouse Lantern unfortunately can't be charged with the Escape 30 solar panel. The Escape 30 panel only has one plug that is a 4.7mm plug that does not work with the Lantern. However it can be charged with the Nomad 7 through the 12V.

I have a Goal Zero Lighthouse Lantern. It came with a wall-power adapter configured for "the wrong country". I live in the US, but it came with a European style wall-power AC adapter (230 VAC).

How do I order the US version adapter, find something else with compatible output interface, or buy something to adapt it?

The Wall power AC adapter which came with it is a 230Volt AC adapter conversion to "12VDC 400ma", so I need any wall power unit which plugs into ~110 Volts AC, delivers 12 volts DC at 400 milliamps (0.4 amps), and has the right Lighthouse Lantern compatible charger input plug.
