Have you heard? New Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit Announced

GOAL ZERO Introduces Ultimate Compact Solar Charging Kit for Mobile Electronics with Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit

Lighter and more compact Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit powerful enough to charge an iPad™

GOAL ZERO, a leading innovator of portable solar power systems, today announced the introduction of the GOAL ZERO Guide 10 Plus rechargeable power pack and the Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.

Similar to the original Guide 10 released in January, the new Guide 10 Plus acts as a 2-in-1 charger that powers handheld electronics, such as iPods™ and smartphones, via USB output and charges up to four AA or AAA rechargeable batteries in three to four hours. The distinctive new twist of the Guide 10 Plus is that it now also features a 1-Amp output that will give life to an iPad™ for up to five additional hours, while charging cell phones and smart phones twice as fast as the original version.

The GOAL ZERO Guide 10 Plus power pack is designed to work in conjunction with the new Nomad 3.5, a 3.5-watt mono-crystalline solar panel delivered in foldable fabric housing. Weighing in at only 8 oz., the Nomad 3.5 is lighter than many of the electronics that it has the ability to charge, and when folded up, it’s about the size of a small paperback book. The Nomad 3.5 charges a cell phone in two to four hours directly via its USB port and fully charges the Guide 10 Plus in four hours of full sunlight.

Back Pocket

Customers spoke and we listened. Zipper pocket on the back for Guide 10.

Together, the Guide 10 Plus and the Nomad 3.5 make up the ground-breaking Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit, which will revolutionize the way consumers use their electronics on-the-go as the most cost-effective, compact and lightweight solar energy system on the market to date.

“The mass market isn’t shifting to reliance on mobile devices, it’s already there – people do everything on their phones and tablets these days and consequently require a way to continue this new way of life anytime, anywhere,” said Joe Atkin, President of GOAL ZERO. “That’s where we come in. Consumers demanded a kit powerful enough to charge and iPad™, but small and portable enough to not be a burden to tote around, and so, the Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit was born.”

Created for convenience and broad functionality, the new kit delivers portable power to a variety of USB and DC devices and will fit effortlessly into any purse, briefcase, or backpack. When fully charged, the Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit delivers five hours of power for an iPad™, two to four recharges for a cell phone, as well as one and a half recharges for a smart phone, like an iPhone™, Droid™, or Blackberry™. The Guide 10 power pack can be charged either from the Nomad 3.5’s solar panels or from a laptop via USB connection.

The Guide 10 Plus will be available as a single unit power pack ($59.99) or as part of the Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit ($129.99) at major retailers in September 2011. For further information about GOAL ZERO and its products, please visit www.goalzero.com or call us at 888-794-6250.

i bought my guide 10 about 1 month ago. Do you offer any sort of trade in or trade up to the new guide 10?

    • goalzero says:

I am sure we will have a killer special for our existing customers when it is released.

      • Lachlan says:

I’ll keep my ears open for this, as I am another recent purchaser of the Guide 10 and Nomad 7 kit. This new incarnation of the Guide 10 is a great idea!

        • goalzero says:

Thanks for being our customer. We would love to hear how you use your kit!

          • matt says:

I was hoping for that “killer upgrade ” special noted above. After trying the new goal 10 plus kit I bought at REI for a few weeks. I bought two more Goal 10 plus packs….only 20% off retail….may not qualify for “killer” given the exchange issues with the original Guide 10. I’m just saying….

Will the new Guide 10 plus power pack work with the Nomad 7?

I was somewhat disappointed when I did not see the CASIO2One commando cell phone listed by as a compatable cell phone to power up with ur systems. I was impressed @ the ruggness and element resistance of that cell. OR can u suggest another that has = qualities . water resistance, heat, cold, drop to hook up with U. thanx 4 ur time Ric

    • goalzero says:

I have looked at the specs of your phone http://www.casiogzone.com/commando/ and I have passed it on to support so they can chime in on what will charge it the best. Cool phone by the way…

    • ryan says:

      Hi Ric,

I have the same phone as you and was also disappointed that the guide ten plus didn’t charge it. But, I found that you turn the usb cord into a “charge only” cord if you do a little rewiring in the cord itself. This will allow the charger to charge the casio commando! Here’s a web site that might help. http://pinoutsguide.com/PortableDevices/micro_usb_pinout.shtml.

You may want to purchase a separate usb cord instead of cutting up your everyday use cord. All you need to do is cut the cord in half, then reconnect the red and black wires. Also, you need to connect the green and white wire on the MICRO usb side. You’re essentially shorting the data circuit in in the micro usb side so that you’re tricking the phone into not looking for data to sync. If you have any questions or need help with it you can email me at rtockstein at gmail . com. Hope this helps.

Will the new Guide 10 plus power pack work with the Nomad 13m or Nomad 27m?

    • goalzero says:

Depends on the version of Nomad 13 or Nomad 27 you have. If you have the one that has the built in USB on the junction box then, yes you will be able to power the Guide 10 Plus off of it.

      • Vu says:

Isn’t charging via the Nomad 13.5′s USB output (5 watt max) slower than the regular 12v connector (13.5 watt max)? Is there an adapter that let’s the Nomad’s 4.7mm plug fit into a Guide 10′s input jack?

  6. ALEXANDRU MOSCU says:

    Hello,
I recently bought from US one Nomad 27M and 3 Guide 10 battery packs. I want to ask you how can I connect the 3 Guide 10 chargers to Nomad 27M, not through USB.
    Thank you!

  7. Rik Damin says:

Was there an upgrade special for the Nomad 13.5 to where an exchange
could be made, or swap to get the one with the connections in the junction box ?

  8. Nikola says:

Any idea when the guide 10 plus battery pack will be out?

    • goalzero says:

It is currently in selected retailers already. (REI, EMS – I would call for availability) It is selling out before we can even get stock to our warehouse. We hope to have them ready to purchase online by mid-November.

  9. DAHIGI says:

I really like the new design of the Nomad 3.5 and how the large mesh pouch and adapter ports are located on the outside of the panel when the panel is folded up. I still use the Nomad 7 panel for the faster solar charging times of the new guide 10 plus. Are there any plans to change the Nomad 7 panels to a similar or same design as the new Nomad 3.5′s?

(A large mesh pouch on the outside of the Nomad 7 would give enough room to carry and store the guide 10 plus, solar cable, 12V Male cigarette adapter, luna light, AAA adapter, spare rechargeable batteries, etc. All in one “grab and go” unit.)

    • Joe says:

This would be a great idea. I just received the Nomad 7 Adventure Kit and found that it doesn’t really secure itself shut when the battery pack is inside the pouch. The upgraded case would be a well received upgrade!

  10. Max says:

I just ordered the kit for my trip to Pakistan (in two weeks) and I got an email saying that the new version will arrive next week and they’ll ship that to me (instead of the old version). Cool! :) Oh, and I’m in Australia.

  11. MikeCaAlaska says:

Hi, I received my Nomad 7 in the mail from Amazon a couple of days ago and am waiting for my Guide 10 from them. I did not know that the plus had been released and looks like I may receive the older one in stock at Amazon – what are my trade up options? Many thanks.
    Mike

  12. R Wilder says:

I just placed an order 5 minutes ago for a Guide 10 battery (it’s 10 pm here) – and so am wondering before Order ships out: Can i switch that Order to a Guide 10 Plus? Ability to also power our IPad2 would be great. As it’s mid-November, I am just guessing that you might be closer to having these on hand now to ship. I don’t mind waiting a bit longer to receive that, nor if it’s just a bit more costly (for upgraded USB etc).

  13. lance henriksen says:

I have been enjoying your product, bought many for gifts…..i want to pass on an idea
that i feel would be a great addition to your products, that i would buy in a heart beat…
a lighter,or fire starter, that could spark off the power units…
    this could even save lives…..
rubbing sticks together…has its drawback…..your line of products are really to be admired…….thanks Lance

The guide 10 plus works great for charging my Icom hand held amateur radio. I am involved in emergency operations and communications within my community and have been worried about running out of juice during a real emergency. I believe Goal Zero has found my solution with the Guide 10 Plus. Thank you for a great product!
